New reports suggest a balaclava-clad man broke into the Burrawong Ave, Clifton Gardens home at about 2.30pm and strapped a collarbomb to her neck.
It is understood he also left a ransom note.
It is believed that the girl is a Wenona School student.
Police confirmed that a bombsquad, officers and rescue vechicles were sent to the home after the 18-year-old called police.
Bomb Squad officers are currently examining the device at the house, while other emergency services are in support at the scene.
Officers have established a perimeter around the house and a command post has been set-up on the corner of Burrawong Avenue and David Street.
The Daily’s reporter Emma Page and photographer Dave Swift are currently on site.
About 60 residents are crowding the streets, and those who live on Burrawong Ave have been stopped from entering their homes.
Two people believed to be the girl’s parents have been allowed into the street to speak with officers.
Burrawong Ave is home to racing identity Gai Waterhouse, ex-Wallaby Phil Kearns and John Eales.
